CICLO DE SEMINÁRIOS DE ESTUDOS ARMÉNIOS

A Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa, o Centro de História da Universidade de Lisboa, a Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian (Serviço das Comunidades Arménias) e a Associação de Amizade Portugal-Arménia associaram-se para oferecer um ciclo de cinco conferências quinzenais sobre o povo arménio. Esta é a primeira iniciativa do género em Portugal. As palestras, proferidas em inglês por especialistas internacionais, apresentam a rica história e cultura dos arménios, um dos povos mais antigos do mundo, à comunidade académica em Portugal, bem como ao público interessado.
Após uma breve introdução à história da Arménia pelo Dr. Razmik Panossian da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, a série começa com o Dr. Hratch Tchilingirian (Universidade de Oxford) que se centra na Igreja Arménia e no Cristianismo. A segunda conferência é sobre a arte e a sociedade arménias no período medieval, proferida pela Professora Christina Maranci (Universidade de Harvard). O Professor Sebouh Aslanian (UCLA) dá a terceira conferência sobre a cultura impressa arménia, centrando-se no período moderno. Segue-se o Dr. Razmik Panossian, que aborda os séculos XIX e XX e o nascimento do nacionalismo arménio moderno. O ciclo termina com a época contemporânea, com a conferência da Professora Anna Ohanyan (Stonehill College) sobre o período pós-soviético e as questões actuais de guerra e paz.
Em cada sessão haverá uma palestra de 45-60 minutos, seguida de um período de discussão de 30-45 minutos. A língua dos seminários é a língua inglesa.

O primeiro seminário será precedido por uma sessão de inauguração do ciclo que contará com a presença do Professor Doutor Miguel Tamen (Director da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa), do Professor Doutor António M. Feijó (Presidente da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian), do Professor Doutor Hermenegildo Fernandes (Director da Área de História da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa), do Doutor Vahe Mkhitarian (Presidente da Associação de Amizade Portugal-Arménia) e do Doutor Razmik Panossian (Director do Serviço das Comunidades Arménias da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian).

ARMENIAN STUDIES LECTURE SERIES
The School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (Armenian Communities Department), and the Portugal-Armenia Friendship Association have teamed up to offer a five-part series of bi-weekly lectures on the Armenian people. This is the first such initiative in Portugal. The lectures, delivered in English by international experts, introduce the rich history and culture of the Armenians, one of the oldest people in the world, to the academic community in Portugal, as well as to the interested public.
After a brief introduction to Armenian history by Dr. Razmik Panossian of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the series starts with Dr. Hratch Tchilingirian (University of Oxford) who focuses on the Armenian Church and Christianity. The second lecture is about Armenian art and society in the medieval period, delivered by Professor Christina Maranci (Harvard University). Professor Sebouh Aslanian (UCLA) gives the third lecture on Armenian print culture, focussing on the early modern period. He is followed by Dr. Razmik Panossian who covers the 19th and 20th centuries and the birth of modern Armenian nationalism. The series ends with the contemporary period, with Professor Anna Ohanyan’s lecture (Stonehill College) on the post-Soviet period and current issues of war and peace.
The format of each session is a 45-60 minute lecture, followed by a discussion period of 30-45 minutes. The language of the lectures is English.
