CH-ULisboa welcomes Diego Vicente Sánchez as a visiting researcher

Between September and November 2024, the Centre for History of the University of Lisbon will host a new visiting researcher: Diego Vicente Sánchez. The PhD candidate from the University of Extremadura will conduct research in national libraries and archives under the guidance of Sérgio Campos Matos. His research will focus on the theme: "Defining, Controlling, and Conceptualizing the Border between Spain and Portugal (1717-1864)." Diego Vicente Sánchez’s main research topics include border studies, Hispano-Portuguese relations (19th-20th centuries), and the theory of history.

 

He holds a degree in History and Heritage from the University of Extremadura (2021) and a Master's in Historical Research (UEx, 2022). He was awarded the prize for the best student. He is currently one of the recipients of the FPU 2021 predoctoral contracts from the Ministry of Universities, working on a doctoral thesis about the construction of the Spanish-Portuguese border in the 18th and 19th centuries. He received a research collaboration grant in the History Department (UEx) for a project titled "The Middle Ages of Spanish Nationalism," which resulted in a work awarded the Opera Prima 2021 prize, titled "The Francoist Middle Ages," published in 2023 by the University of Extremadura’s Publications Service. Additionally, he serves as the treasurer of the Extremadura Contemporary History Studies Group and is responsible for the working group on contemporary Portuguese history.
