African Ivories in the Atlantic World, 1400-1900 receives the 2024 Arnold Rubin Outstanding Publication Award

The Centre for History of the University of Lisbon is pleased to announce that the 2024 Arnold Rubin Outstanding Publication Award (Multi-authored volumes) for excellence in scholarship on the arts of Africa and the African Diaspora has been awarded to African Ivories in the Atlantic World, 1400-1900 (open access), a book published in 2021 by CH-ULisboa and edited by José da Silva Horta, Carlos Almeida and Peter Mark. The award was presented at the 19th ACASA - Arts Council of the African Studies Association Triennial Symposium on African Art, which took place in Chicago, Illinois, USA from August 7 through 11, 2024. Peter Mark was present at the award ceremony on behalf of the other editors and authors of the book. The awards committee assessed works of original scholarship and excellence in visual presentation that makes significant contribution to our understanding of African arts and material culture.

O Centro de História da Universidade de Lisboa tem o prazer de anunciar que o 2024 Arnold Rubin Outstanding Publication Award (categoria de edição colectiva) foi atribuído ao livro Marfins Africanos no Mundo Atlântico, 1400-1900 (acesso aberto), publicado em 2021 pelo CH-ULisboa e editado por José da Silva Horta, Carlos Almeida e Peter Mark. O prémio foi entregue durante o 19.º Simpósio Trienal de Arte Africana da ACASA - Arts Council of the African Studies Association, que decorreu em Chicago, Illinois, EUA, de 7 a 11 de Agosto de 2024. Peter Mark esteve presente na cerimónia de atribuição do prémio em reperesentação dos restantes coordenadores e autores da obra. O comité de selecção avaliou trabalhos de investigação original e de excelência na apresentação visual que constituem uma contribuição significativa para a compreensão das artes e da cultura material africanas.
