Continuing the cycle started in 2023, which initiated the debate around one of the most prominent themes in current historiography - "Ocean History", we propose to continue the study of this theme. Taking the oceans as the central object of the construction of knowledge networks and human development, we will focus our reflection on the Atlantic and its connections with the Indian and Pacific Oceans. In the year that marks the 500th anniversary of Vasco da Gama's death, we will also reflect on how his first voyage, which inaugurated what became known as the "India Route", opened Europe to other "worlds".

 

The 18th International Symposium on Maritime History, organized by the Naval Academy, through its Maritime History Class, under the theme From Ocean Routes: From the Atlantic to the "Seas" of Asia, will be held in Lisbon, at the "Admiral Rogério de Oliveira" Auditorium, Naval Academy, from November 26 to 28, where the following topics will be discussed:
