Resumo: a história do cristianismo, marcada pela profusão de diferentes personagens e mundividências, não pode ser dissociada de Paulo de Tarso, o apóstolo das nações. Nenhuma outra figura assumiu um papel tão importante nos destinos da religião de Jesus de Nazaré e no sucesso que ela obteve. Para esse êxito contribuiu, em grande medida, a polivalência do apóstolo e a sua entrega total à causa de Cristo em que ele se fez «tudo para todos» (1 Cor 9:22). Além de ter fundado as primeiras comunidades cristãs, ele foi igualmente autor de uma abundante epistolografia, cujos conteúdos, hoje tal como no passado, continuam a ser de difícil interpretação. Pregador, pensador, teólogo, homem multifacetado e fonte de inesgotável conhecimento, por vezes controverso e pouco afável, amado por uns, odiado e desprezado por outros, assim era Paulo de Tarso. Com o aparecimento dos denominados Estudos Bíblicos e a aplicação do método histórico-crítico de leitura da Bíblia, os temas das Cartas de Paulo como a castidade, o matrimónio ou a organização do culto, passaram a ser amplamente analisados pelos exegetas e a bibliografia da especialidade cresceu de forma substancial. No entanto, para compreender outras matérias afloradas pelo apóstolo nas suas missivas, como a experiência de revelação divina, os estudiosos começaram a encontrar respostas não apenas na História ou na Teologia, mas também na Psicologia e na Filosofia das Religiões. Neste evento, estarão reunidos três investigadores que irão apresentar novas perspetivas do mundo em que Paulo viveu, permitindo que os atuais leitores consigam alcançar um melhor entendimento das suas cartas e do pensamento que lhes está subjacente.
Abstract: the history of Christianity, dialed by the profusion of different characters and several worldviews, can’t be dissociated of Paul of Tarsus, the apostle of the nations. Neither another figure assumed a most primordial role in the destinies of Jesus of Nazareth religion and the triumph that it attained. For this success contributed, in large measure, the apostle multitasking and his Christ devotion in which he become himself “all things to all people” (1 Cor 9:22). Besides the foundation of the first Christian communities, he was, likewise, author of an abundant epistolography, whose contents, today as in the past, have an arduous interpretation. Preacher, thinker, theologian, a multifaceted man and a source of a boundless thought, sometimes controverse and not very friendly, loved by some people and despised by others, so it was Paul of Tarsus. With the arising of the Biblical Studies and the historical-criticism method of the Bible reading, the subjects of Paul’s letters like the chastity, the matrimony or the worship activities were mostly analyzed by the exegetes and the specialized bibliography grows up considerably. However, to understand some subjects developed by the apostle in his missives, as the divine revelation experience, the experts found some answers not only in the History or in the Theology, but also in the Psychology and in the Philosophy of Religions. In this colloquium we have three scholars who will present new perspectives of the world in which Paul lived, allowing that the actual readers could achieve a better perceiving of his letters and of the thought that is inherent in them.
