His scientific publications include: <em>E\u00e7a de Queir\u00f3s and Pharaonic Egypt<\/em> (1987); <em>Myths and Legends of Ancient Egypt<\/em> (2005); <em>Eroticism and Sexuality in Ancient Egypt<\/em> (2012); <em>Egyptian Art. She obtained her PhD in 1984 with the thesis <em>The Regencies during the Minority of King Sebastian. Elements for a Structural History<\/em>. A disciple of Virg\u00ednia Rau and Jorge Borges de Macedo, she specialised in Modern History and, in 1991, presented her lecture for aggregation on the theme \u00abTowards a history of Europe in the 16th century: typology of the regime and institutions\u00bb. BA Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome (1960) and in Biblical and Oriental Sciences at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome (1963). He taught at the Catholic University of Portugal, at the University of the Azores and at the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon, where he founded the Oriental Institute. He graduated in Historical and Philosophical Sciences from FLUL and began teaching at this institution after 25 April 1974. He obtained his doctorate in 1978 with a thesis on the Revolution of 1383. He obtained his professorship in 1991, was appointed full professor two years later and retired in 1998. His works include <em>Hist\u00f3ria de Portugal<\/em> (5 volumes) and <em>Portugal na Espanha \u00c1rabe<\/em>, as well as studies on the Inquisition. HBA in Philosophy, from the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon, and PhD in Sociology, from the University of Strasbourg. He taught at the universities of Aix-en-Provence, Pisa, Cologne, Johns Hopkins, and Brown. Jo\u00e3o II: Um Percurso Humano e Pol\u00edtico nas Origens da Modernidade em Portugal<\/em>. From 1990 to 1996, she was Deputy Director-General of the National Archives\/Torre do Tombo; from 2004 to 2006, Secretary-General of the Portuguese Academy of History; and, since January of this year, President of the Portuguese Academy of History.
