The group of documents presented is a digitisation of the documentation collected, organised, transcribed and published under the guidance of António da Silva Rego between 1960-1977 at the Centro de Estudos Históricos Ultramarinos. This handwritten documentation in the National Archives of Torre do Tombo was given the name ‘Gavetas’ (drawers) because of the way it was organised in the old Royal Archives. In each drawer, documents relating to each subject of the State were kept.
