Valter Mendes Fernandes is a Research Assistant at the Centre for History of the University of Lisbon (CH-ULisboa). Graduated in History, with a Master’s degree in Modern and Contemporary History, which explores English representations of the Iberian expansion of early modernity. Currently, as a PhD candidate in History of Expansion and Discovery, focuses on the study of the Atlantic, with a particular focus on the west African coast between the 15th and 18th centuries. He is a member of the “Dinâmicas Imperiais” Research Group (CH-ULisboa).
