Sónia Borges holds a degree in History from the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon (FLUL) and a master’s degree in History, specializing in International Relations, with the dissertation Two Courts, One Model: Diplomatic Ceremony in Luso-Spanish Relations (1715-1750). She is currently pursuing a PhD in Early Modern History at the same institution, with the thesis project Braganza and Bourbon: Agents, Networks, and Projects for a Family Diplomacy between Portugal, Spain, and France (1746-1763), funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology. She is currently a researcher in a joint project between the Centre for History of the University of Lisbon and the Odivelas City Council on the Monastery of São Dinis de Odivelas. As a researcher at the Centre for History of the University of Lisbon, she is a member of the Court and Diplomacy Studies research group and was a Science and Technology Management Fellow (BGCT) at the same research unit (2017-2019). In 2014, she completed an internship at the Diplomatic Historical Archive of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (AHD-MNE). In recent years, she has participated in and organized various national and international scientific events, published articles, and collaborated on projects related to diplomacy in the modern period. Her research focuses on diplomatic, political, and cultural relations between Portugal, Spain, and France in the 18th century, particularly examining the role of formal and informal diplomatic actors, the influence of gender in diplomacy, interpersonal relationships and networks among various agents, as well as the function of ceremony and material culture.
