Ricardo Parra is a researcher at the History Centre of the University of Lisbon since 2023, part of the Military History Research Group. He completed his master’s thesis entitled ‘Political Regimes and Tourism: the Case of Communism and the Reality of North Korea’ and since then has focused on the historical analysis of communist political regimes. He is currently doing a PhD in History, specialising in Contemporary History, where he is analysing the Soviet imaginary of Portuguese politics in a thesis entitled ‘Da Guerra Colonial à Democratização: a Política Portuguesa vista pela União Soviética (1961-1976)’ (From the Colonial War to Democratisation: Portuguese Politics as Seen by the Soviet Union (1961-1976)). He also specialises in the History of Cinema, especially the various European film movements, a subject he has studied since his BA in Media Production – specialising in Cinema – at the University of Southampton, and which he has taught in various free courses at FLUL, as well as in articles published in international journals. Currently, as well as doing a PhD in History, he is studying Russian language and culture at FLUL, which allows him to read and analyse documentation written in Russian
