Maria Alexandre Lousada

Maria Alexandre Lousada holds a Bachelor’s degree in History and a Ph.D. in Geography (Historical Geography) from the University of Lisbon. Her research focuses on the construction of contemporary Portuguese society from the late 18th century to the early 20th century. Her work emphasizes the study of sociabilities and associativism, urban culture – with a particular focus on the city of Lisbon – counter-revolution, and the early stages of tourism in Portugal. She currently serves as an Assistant Professor in the History Department at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Lisbon and is a researcher at the Center for History/FL-UL and the Center for Geographic Studies/IGOT-UL. Additionally, she serves as the director of the Ph.D. program in History at the Faculty of Arts of the same University. Previously, Maria Alexandre Lousada has held leadership roles, including being the director of the European Studies program (2009-2014) and coordinating the Master’s programs in Culture and Society in Europe (2007-2008) and European Policies (2007-2009) at the Faculty of Arts and IGOT, University of Lisbon.
