José Augusto Martins Ramos is Emeritus Professor at the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon since 2012. He completed his PhD in History, specialising in Ancient History, in 1989 at the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon. He holds a Licence in Biblical Sciences in 1972 from the Pontifical Biblical Institute, a Licence in Theology in 1969 from the Catholic Institute of Toulouse and a Baccalaureate in Theology in 1966 from the Catholic Institute of Toulouse. José Augusto Ramos was an Assistant Professor at the Portuguese Catholic University (1973-1975) and has been a Professor (since 1976) at the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon, where he teaches courses and seminars on Hebrew, Akkadian, Ugaritic, Pre-Classical History, the History of Christianity and the History of Pre-Classical Religions. His main research interests are: Pre-Classical History, Pre-Classical Literatures, Comparative History of Religions and Translation of Biblical Texts (Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek).
