Bachelor’s Degree in History (Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Lisbon – 1985). Master’s Degree in Medieval History (Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Porto – 1995). Postgraduate Degree in Cultural Heritage Tourism (SPS Preston Robert Tisch Institute for Global Sport and the Jonathan M. Tisch Center of Hospitality, New York University – 1997). Postgraduate Degree in Local Government Law (Faculty of Law, University of Lisbon – 2004). Within the framework of the PhD in Letters at the University of Beira Interior, completed in 2011 the curricular component with the subjects Advanced Topics in Literatures and Cultures, Language Sciences, and Specific Methodologies, and is currently finalizing a PhD in History, specialization in Modern History, at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon.
Author of several dozen publications (including books and articles), some of his/her studies have been published in languages such as English, Spanish, French, German, and Japanese.
Having received research grants from national entities and institutions, he/she has also been awarded national and international prizes focused on historiography and the safeguarding of historical and architectural heritage, namely: the Etjima International Art Show Prize, Japan (1986), for the work Smoke Steps, within the scope of a project aimed at safeguarding a group of century-old chimneys located in the parish of Barão de São João, municipality of Lagos, dating from the late 19th century; the Regional Press Prize (Honourable Mention) in 1990, co-authored, for the research study titled “The Menhir of Odiáxere: An Important Archaeological Discovery”; the Monograph Prize of the Historical Society of the Independence of Portugal (1992) awarded to the research study “Historical-Monographic Study of the Parish of Santa Maria (Municipality of Lagos)”; and the Regional Press Prize (Honourable Mention) from the Historical Society of the Independence of Portugal, also in 1992, for the research study titled “João Bonança, a Native of Lagos Candidate for the First Presidency of the Portuguese Republic.”
Research Interests: Development of research projects in the fields of Local and Regional History (16th–18th centuries), where the inventorying of municipal and parish archives constitutes the basis of his/her research, materialized in studies published by both Municipal Councils and Parish Councils.
