Ernesto Castro Leal is Graduated in History, Master, PhD and Aggregation in Contemporary History at the University of Lisbon. He is an Associate Professor at the University of Lisbon (School of Arts and Humanities, Department of History) since 2008 and an Integrated Researcher (“Uses of the Past” Research Group) at the Centre for History of the University of Lisbon since 1987. He has published scientific papers and books in the areas of History of Ideas and Political Culture, Political History and Intellectual History. His research focuses on Portuguese federalism (1873-1926), Portuguese nationalism (1890-1940) and the Portuguese Republic (1910-1926). The main research topics are: nation, state, nationalism and federalism; memory, mythologie and national identity; political parties, organizations and political programs.
