Senior Researcher at the History Center of the University of Lisbon. He received a degree in History in 1981, he obtained his Master’s degree in 1992 and, in 2000, his PhD in Sociology from Universidade Nova de Lisboa. In 2015 he achieved Aggregation in Contemporary History. He develops various researchers on different topics, namely, contemporary history, immigration, political developments of São Tomé and Principe, Cape Verde and Mozambique. Author of several books and articles in scientific journals.  Coordinator of Sources for African History Project. Its main areas of interest are African political history, namely of the São Tomé e Príncipe. He also studies sport and leisure in Africa. Member of Sport and Leisure in Africa International Network.
