Armando Norte holds both a degree and a PhD in History from the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon. His doctoral thesis, which focused on literate individuals and literate culture, was recognized with the A. de Almeida Fernandes Prize in Medieval History (2013). He is an assistant researcher at the Centre for History of the University of Lisbon and has, in recent years, served as a visiting researcher at the universities of Bologna (2022) and Towson (2023). He is the author of numerous publications, including Intellectuals in Portugal in the Middle Ages (2020), which was awarded by the Portuguese Academy of History, and a biography of Pope John XXI (2016), subsequently translated into Italian (2021). He has contributed to several funded research projects and is currently the principal investigator of the CRYPTO-BOOKS project, which explores Portuguese royal libraries in the Late Middle Ages (2023-2029). In addition to his research activities, he serves as a guest professor at the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon, where he supervises master’s and doctoral students. His research interests lie within the domain of medieval cultural history, with a particular focus on the history of the book, the history of universities, and the history of the imaginary.
