António Borges Coelho

Born in Murça (Trás-os-Montes, 1928), in addition to being a historian, he was also a journalist, poet, playwright and, in his youth, an anti-fascist resistance fighter. He graduated in Historical and Philosophical Sciences from FLUL and began teaching at this institution after 25 April 1974. He obtained his doctorate in 1978 with a thesis on the Revolution of 1383. He obtained his professorship in 1991, was appointed full professor two years later and retired in 1998. His works include História de Portugal (5 volumes) and Portugal na Espanha Árabe, as well as studies on the Inquisition. He died in October 2025, in Carcavelos.
