Violence in the Name of God: From Apocalyptic Expectations to Violence
Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa | School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon - Anf. IV
This symposium aims to be the first event discussing the relationship between apocalyptic expectations (regarding the end of the world) and the growth of "religious" violence in our days to take place at the University of Lisbon. This event will mark the creation of an interdisciplinary and international think tank group based at ULisboa, taking advantage of the Portuguese geopolitical strategic location to discuss the impact of eschatological expectations (prophetical, messianic, and apocalyptic) in a 21st-century religious crisis involving violence and acts of terrorism.
Speakers: Alastair Lockart, Alexandre Palma, Ana Valdez, Anathea Portier-Young, Catherine Keller, Frances Flannery, Jeremia Punt, Jesper Høgenhaven, John J. Collins, Louis Jonker, Maura Hametz e Paul Middleton.
Moderators: Alexandra Assis Rosa, Luís Nuno Rodrigues, Hermenegildo Fernandes, Raquel Beleza da Silva, Raquel Vaz-Pinto e Sofia Frade.
